Zimbabweans Urged to Religiously Adhere to Lockdown Measures

Vice President Kembo Mohadi

By Joyce Mukucha

Vice President Kembo Mohadi who is also the acting President for the meantime has urged Zimbabweans to abide by new lockdown stipulated regulations.

He highlighted that there was a need for them to choose between life and death as the nation is grappling with the global coronavirus pandemic.

He made these remarks at a press conference held at his Munhumutapa Offices in Harare on the 3rd of January 2021.

“Yesterday the Ministry of Health and Child Care issued a statement spelling out a raft of measures strengthening the nation’s vigilance in the face of the covid-19 pandemic, which we must religiously adhere to.

“I, therefore, appeal to you fellow Zimbabweans, that while scientists are working towards a vaccine, it is imperative that you and I remain vigilant,” he said.

A new second wave of the coronavirus surging around the world has been fuelled by the just-ended festive holidays which appeared to have opened floodgates of new infections.

The Acting President also called upon businesses to be more vigilant in reducing crowds at all points in line with social distancing protocols.

He expressed concern over some laxity by citizens who do not take the covid-19 regulations seriously.

“Regrettably, it is worrisome that some of our people do not take the wearing of masks seriously. We, therefore, urge all leaders to take an active role in enforcing the wearing of masks.”

Security agencies, health officials, and security institutions, he said, will continue to enforce the standards and adherence to the regulations within the stipulated times, adding “the behavioural change will take us out of this danger.”

He also highlighted that the presentation of unauthentic Covid-19 certificates by some of the citizens has exposed people to the disease and is far removed from ubuntu.

He also urged citizens to stay at home, unless there is really a need to go out.

“Make every decision to leave your house a matter of life and death,” he said.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care on Saturday evening announced strict lockdown measures in response to rising positive cases and deaths as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.
