Zimbabwe leads African Tourism Organisation formulation at the AU STC TTIET in Egypt


Zimbabwe, led by the Honourable Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry is part of the 38 countries participating at the Second Ordinary Session of the Africa Union Specialised Technical Committee on Transport; Transcontinental and Inter-Regional Infrastructure, Energy and Tourism, currently being held in Cairo, Egypt from 14-18 April 2019. 

The session, running under the theme “Developing Smart Infrastructure to boost Africa’s Continental Transformation and Integration”, will take stock of the 2017 – 2019 Plan of Action and set course for the continent for the next 2years.

The Southern Region deliberating on the incoming 1st Vice Chair of the STC Bureau This 2nd session also witnesses the election of the new STC Bureau as outgoing Chairs hand over their Chairmanship. The Honourable Minister Priscah Mupfumira who has been representing the country as the 2nd Vice Chair of the Bureau and Chair of the Tourism Sub-Committee hands over her Chairmanship after successful strides noted by the members states, who expressed satisfaction at the commitment and progressive leadership displayed.

Of note, is the historical feat in the accomplishment of the following key milestones for the Continental Tourism under the Chairmanship of Zimbabwe: to lead in the formulation of the African Tourism Strategic Framework (ATSF); to lead in the formulation of the African Tourism Organisation (ATO); and final to lead in the creation of a Tourism Unit in the structures of the African Union Commission (AUC).

The 2018 African Tourism Minister of the year and her Ministry is leading a delegation comprising of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
