Peace loving citizens thronged Harare’s Africa Unity Square on Saturday where they took part in Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) march ahead of a high-profile event slated for this Wednesday at the giant National Sports Stadium dubbed Peace and Family Festival.
Rev Dr Sun Myung Moon, the founder of the movement, will preside over the momentous event and the African tour will be her first maiden visit to Zimbabwe.
President Mnangagwa is also expected to officiate the momentous occasion.
The solidarity march held under the banner “Peace Starts with Me, Peace Starts with My Family” comprised clergy mobilises, religious leaders, youths and civil society.
Rev George Ogurie, General Coordinator Organising Committee of the Peace and Family Festival said the Saturday march played an integral role in enlightening the local citizens on the essence of peace towards nation building.
“Peace must prevail from the grass roots level up to all arms of the government and it is our quest to inculcate knowledge of peace to the nation at the Peace and Family Festival”, he said.
FFWPU programs will go a long way in reviving the family institution and make people realise the importance of peace together with developmental role it plays in the society.
“Peace is a key element of the family, which is an essential part of the society, as it paves way for a stable environment which is free from conflicts and civil wars at all levels”, he added.
Participants at the parade were in full regalia which entail sentiments of peace in resemblance of the colours of the national flag.
From Africa Unity Squire the marchers paraded along Jason Moyo in their numbers before joining Leopold Takawira Street heading to Harare Gardens where the expedition ended.
